Actor Sean Penn was surprised to hear that his scheduled meeting with ISIS leader was cancelled. Apparently this meeting had been scheduled for some time now. Penn was prepared and ready for the interview with camo attire on hand. His publicist stated that he was disappointed to hear that the spokesperson for ISIS said that the meeting was no longer “prudent.” The ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was to be interviewed by the actor.
The leader wanted Penn’s publicist to know that “there were no hard feelings” and that he is an “enormous fan”. Maybe a future interview will happen. Not at this time however.Must not have been high on their priorities. Since the terrorist group is too busy murdering innocent people and all. The spokesperson also made a point to say that “Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi loves all of Sean’s films, even the one he did with Madonna.” Wow a fan!
Interestingly enough this all was a misunderstanding. Sean Penn meeting with ISIS was never actually happening or scheduled. The story went viral however. For those who did not know the article was written by comedic writer Andy Borowitz from The New Yorker. He writes the Borowitz Report for the site. The article was written so well people were shocked at the idea that Sean Penn had the opportunity to sit down with the Islamic State leader.
Borowitz article was just jab at the latest that the actor Sean Penn sat down with El Chapo. For those of you who do not know El Chapo was the famous Mexican drug lord that was recently captured. Actor Sean Penn was able to have an interview with the drug lord prior to his arrest for Rolling Stone magazine. This actually did happen.
For some the article headline was all too real. So much clarification had to be made and the poor actor Sean Penn was apologized too as well for the misunderstanding. But really though. Why in the world would the leader of ISIS sit down for a peaceful interview with a famous American citizen? Yes it’s shocking that Penn had an interview with El Chapo but come on the Islamic State leader. For those who understand the Borowitz Report the message was clear and amusing. At a quick glance it may seem realistic.
A weekend editor from Deadline was one of those gullible people and posted a headline about the meeting. Since then the headline has been removed and Deadline Hollywood had to send apologies to Sean Penn and let the public know that the statement was false and a misunderstanding. We are all human and make mistakes this mistake however went viral. Hopefully the editor didn’t get in too much trouble and Borowitz should take it as a compliment. His sarcastic writing was so well written it took people by surprise. Borowitz’s article is still viewable online for all to see and enjoy. Surely Sean Penn didn’t take the headline to heart, he is an actor and gets all kinds of publicity whether it’s true or untrue.
